The Hypocrites and their Flatbed Truck

One day some hypocrites were riding through town on a flatbed truck preaching and passing out lists of commandments to show how virtuous they were.

On the way out of town they drove over a 5 pound charge of TNT which raised their truck into the air. If the explosion had been perfectly efficient, with the entire yield applied to lifting the truck, how high up into the air would their flatbed have flown?

Answer: The weight force of a 5 ton truck is 5000 ocques and the explosive yield of 1/10 talent of TNT is 500 ocquemiles. If applied without loss that energy would raise the truck 1/10 mile.

When explosive energy is measured in "tons of TNT" the energy-yield assumed for TNT on a per talent (21.73 kilogram) basis amounts to 5000 ocquemiles, the metric equivalent being 100 megajoules.

Webster's---hypocrite: one who pretends to...have principles...that he does not have, especially one who falsely assumes an appearance of virtue...
